Sprout review: is the Sprout job app legit?

Yes, Sprout is a legitimate job app. Made by Magnifex AI, Inc., it lets you swipe or tap on jobs while it writes a tailored resume and cover letter and submits the application. It's rated 4.6 on the App Store. The common complaints are the price, shown only after setup, and repeated postings.

Our verdict

Sprout is a real, popular mobile app that makes applying fast: swipe, review, apply. It's built for volume, so its weak spots are the ones volume brings: repeated postings, few results for some users, and a cost that only appears after setup. Use the 7-day refund window before spending any credits if you're unsure.

Good fit for: Job seekers who like working from their phone, want to move through many openings quickly, and are fine reviewing each application with a swipe.

What it does well

  • Large App Store rating base: 4.6 from about 72,000 ratings
  • Tailored resume and cover letter for each application
  • You can review and edit before applying
  • Some jobs ask guided, role-specific questions instead of skipping them
  • Prices, application limits and refund terms are published

Where it falls short

  • No free trial described; reviewers say the price appears only after a long setup
  • Users report repetitive postings and few results
  • Refunds are only guaranteed if no credits were used
  • Job sources aren't named beyond career sites, job boards and partner networks
  • The site claims a 4.8 App Store rating; the live listing showed 4.6

Tolta competes with Sprout. We’ve tried to be fair: every fact below links to Sprout’s own pages, its App Store listing or public user reports, and we say where Sprout does something well. We haven’t run a paid trial of Sprout yet. This review is based on Sprout’s own site, its terms, Trustpilot and public user reports, checked on October 12, 2026. We’ll update it after hands-on testing.

If you’re comparing apps that auto-apply to jobs for you, the questions below are the ones we’d ask of any of them: what you pay, what you get back if it doesn’t work, and whether the applications it sends are ones you’d send yourself.

Which Sprout is this review about?

This review covers Sprout at usesprout.com, a mobile and web job application app operated by Magnifex AI, Inc. Searches for “Sprout AI” also surface a separate product called JobSprout in some software directories, and the two get mixed up. Check the web address when you read reviews, so the ratings and complaints you weigh are about the right app.

One more naming quirk: on the App Store listing, Sprout’s in-app purchases are still named “Prep AI Basic”, “Pro” and “Ultra”. The developer is Magnifex AI, Inc., the same company named in Sprout’s terms.

Is Sprout legit?

Yes. Sprout is a real, widely used app: on October 12, 2026, its App Store listing showed 4.6 stars from about 72,000 ratings. You build one profile, swipe or tap on jobs, and Sprout generates a tailored resume and cover letter and submits the application. Criticism centers on price, repeated postings and reliability, not on whether it works at all.

From Sprout’s homepage, the flow is:

  1. Build one profile.
  2. Browse jobs from “verified company career sites, job boards, and partner networks, refreshed daily”, more than 10 million in total. Sprout doesn’t name specific boards.
  3. For some jobs, answer “guided, role-specific questions”.
  4. “Review, edit, and apply”, then swipe right or tap apply. Sprout says you keep “full control over what gets submitted”.
  5. Track statuses in a dashboard that also shows related incoming and sent emails.

Two small cautions. Sprout’s site says “Rated 4.8/5 on the App Store”, but the live listing showed 4.6 when we checked. And the site doesn’t say whether it runs as a cloud service or how replies reach the dashboard, for example through your own email or a separate address.

How much does Sprout cost?

As of October 2026, Sprout’s pricing page lists three plans: Weekly at $19.99 for 50 applications, Monthly at $39.99 for 200 applications, and Quarterly at $79.99 for 600 applications over three months. Plans auto-renew, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No free trial is described.

Plan Price Applications Cost per application
Weekly $19.99 50 per week about $0.40
Monthly $39.99 200 per month about $0.20
Quarterly (“Popular”) $79.99 (shown as 70% off $239.99) 600 per 3 months about $0.13

Source: Sprout pricing, as of October 2026. Per-application cost is our arithmetic, assuming you use every credit.

In the iOS app, purchases range from $5.49 a week to $29.99, under the “Prep AI” names. The refund policy, last updated October 12, 2025, is specific: “If no credits have been used or consumed from your account, you may request a full refund within 7 days of purchase.” Once any credits are used, refunds are “considered at our sole discretion”. Requests go to [email protected] within 7 days.

What do users complain about?

The recurring complaints are that the price appears only after a long setup with no free trial, that postings repeat and results are thin, and that AI-written resumes may not get through screening. On October 12, 2026, Sprout’s Trustpilot page had only 2 reviews, both 1-star, so most public feedback comes from the App Store and Reddit.

Paraphrased from App Store reviews, Trustpilot and Reddit:

  • Price after setup. Reviewers say Sprout advertises “Start for Free”, then shows the paywall after they’ve built a profile. Trustpilot’s two reviews both make this point; that’s too few to call representative.
  • Repetitive postings and no results. Some users say the same listings keep coming back.
  • Errors and reliability. In the main Reddit thread about Sprout, one user said a few automated applications misspelled their name. In another thread, a user said auto-apply kept sending them to manual review and that credits for failed applications weren’t returned.

The praise is real too. App Store reviewers call it easy and fast, with dozens of applications in a night, and say the cover letters read professionally. One Reddit user reported more than six recruiter screenings after paying for two months at about $40 a month. Be aware that some positive mentions online are sponsored: Sprout staff have posted in Reddit job threads, some with discount codes, and commenters have flagged creator videos that didn’t disclose a sponsor.

Who is Sprout a good fit for?

Sprout suits job seekers who like working on their phone, want to move through many openings quickly, and are happy to approve each application with a swipe. The 7-day refund rule for unused credits lowers the risk of a first try. It suits you less if you’re applying to a narrow set of roles where each application needs care.

It’s a reasonable fit if:

  • You apply broadly and value speed over a small number of carefully chosen roles.
  • You want a tailored resume and cover letter without writing them yourself.
  • You’d rather swipe than fill forms on a laptop.

It’s a weaker fit if you need to know which boards the jobs come from, or if you’ve already been burned by tools that send many applications and get few replies.

How is Tolta different?

Tolta reads postings directly from company career boards (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Rippling, Workable and Teamtailor), tailors your CV and cover letter for each job, and applies through the employer’s own form. When a form asks something it doesn’t know, it holds the application and asks you once, then reuses the answer. Tolta is pre-launch and hasn’t announced prices.

The differences that matter most against Sprout:

  • Known sources. Every job comes from a named career board. Auto-apply is live today on Workable, Rippling and Teamtailor, with more boards being switched on.
  • Ask once, reuse. Sprout asks guided questions per job; Tolta asks only when your profile can’t answer, and remembers. What’s never auto-filled is listed on our safety page.
  • Your own application address. Each user gets a personal application email address, and employer replies land in an in-app inbox.
  • No LinkedIn automation. Tolta doesn’t run bots on LinkedIn.

Where Sprout is ahead: it’s live with a large rating base, it has a mobile app, and its prices and refund rule are published. For more options, see our Sprout alternatives and our JobAssist review.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sprout AI legit?

Yes. Sprout is a real app operated by Magnifex AI, Inc., with a 4.6 rating from about 72,000 App Store ratings on October 12, 2026. It builds a tailored resume and cover letter for each job and submits the application after you swipe or tap. Complaints focus on cost, repeated postings and reliability, not on whether the product exists.

How much does Sprout cost?

As of October 2026, Sprout's pricing page lists Weekly at $19.99 for 50 applications, Monthly at $39.99 for 200 applications, and Quarterly at $79.99 for 600 applications over three months. Plans auto-renew. In the iOS app, purchases appear under 'Prep AI' names and range from $5.49 a week to $29.99.

Does Sprout have a free trial?

Sprout's site says 'Get started for free', but it doesn't describe a free trial of the paid application features. App Store and Trustpilot reviewers say the price appears only after a long setup. If you want to test it cheaply, the weekly plan plus the 7-day refund rule for unused credits is the closest thing.

Can I get a refund from Sprout?

Sprout's refund policy offers a full refund within 7 days of purchase if no credits have been used. If any credits were used, refunds are 'considered at our sole discretion' and may be full or partial. Requests go to [email protected] within 7 days. Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the current billing period.

Is Sprout the same as JobSprout?

No. This review is about Sprout at usesprout.com, the swipe-to-apply job app run by Magnifex AI, Inc. Some software directories list a different product named JobSprout on Sprout searches. If you're comparing reviews, check the website address so you're reading about the right app.

Does Sprout apply to jobs automatically?

Partly. Sprout prepares a tailored resume and cover letter and submits the application, but you trigger each one by swiping right or tapping apply, and you can review and edit first. Sprout says you keep 'full control over what gets submitted'. One Reddit user reported that auto-apply kept sending them to manual review instead.

Why does Sprout show 'Prep AI' on the App Store?

The in-app purchases on Sprout's App Store listing are named 'Prep AI Basic', 'Pro' and 'Ultra', even though the app and website are branded Sprout. The developer is Magnifex AI, Inc., the same company named in Sprout's terms. The naming looks like a holdover, but Sprout hasn't explained it publicly.

What are good Sprout alternatives?

It depends on why you're leaving. JobAssist also asks you to approve each job and tracks replies. Jobright has highly rated matching on iOS and web. Simplify's autofill extension is free if you'd rather submit yourself. Tolta, our product, applies on the employer's own form and asks instead of guessing; it's pre-launch. See our Sprout alternatives page.
